Arco-Íris Castles is a project that contemplates the
adaptation and storytelling to a more inclusive reality.
There are princesses who save princes and there are princes who fall in love with
boys. There are lionesses who would like to have a mane and deer who would rather not.
have stems. We also heard about a boy who painted his nails, a
girl who wanted to be president and we were told that Rapunzel cut her
hair in the bowl as I was tired of untangling knots.
All traditional tales were written on the assumption that all
children are cisgender, who will be heterosexual in the future and live in families
hetero-normative but we know that this is not a reflection of the whole reality.
In this sense, it is necessary to create a space where through different people,
queer or queer-friendly, stories are built that are more inclusive or adapt
traditional tales in order to represent more children and families, and to educate
making room for diversity.
It is essential that from an early age children know different realities to
who can work on their empathy and love, feeling fully included
in society and also taking an active role in inclusion.
The adaptation or creation of the stories will take into account the following themes: orientation
sexual/romantic, gender identity, feminism, toxic masculinity,
gender expression and diversity in the family.
These stories are told at events open to the public and across the country so
to promote the decentralization of these themes. In each location we work together with
local associations that help to produce the event.
The defined public are children from 5 to 9 years old who can be in the
event accompanied by family members so that this action continues to reverberate
in the family. During the session, the children are challenged with questions with
a view to debating the topics presented.
This project aims to create a book of 12 short stories, a short story
per month, which will include some of the stories created or adapted
during the course of the project. Each tale will be illustrated by a person
different and we count on the sale of the book to revert to a
association to be defined.
